Who publishes this

This website is published by Avonhelm, 11–15 Ashcombe Terrace, Bath BA1 4RN, Somerset, United Kingdom. We are the data controller for anything described here. Write to [email protected] or telephone +44 1225 486 390 and ask for the duty manager.

The hotel operates Avonhelm Casino inside the building. Anything you do on the gaming floor in person is handled at the door and at the desk, under the hotel’s house records, and is separate from this website.

What this website is not

This website has no booking engine. No room is reserved through these pages, no card is taken, and there are no accounts or logins. If a page ever asks you for a card number, it is not ours and you should close it.

What is collected

If you only read the pages, nothing is collected by us beyond what the server writes in its ordinary log.

Two values in your browser. ba_age_ok records that you confirmed you are 18 or over. ba_consent records whether you accepted or declined measurement and advertising. Both live in your own browser's local storage, never reach us, and can be cleared from the browser at any time. In private browsing they may not be stored at all, in which case the site asks again.

Server logs. The web server records the address of the request, the page asked for, the time, the response code and the browser string. These are kept for 30 days for security and for working out why something broke, then deleted. They are not joined to anything else.

Anything you type into the contact form. Your name, your email address, the dates you mention and the text of your message. It arrives as an email at the front desk. Please do not type card numbers, passport numbers or health details into it.

Measurement and advertising

No analytics or advertising tag is loaded when the site is first opened. Google Consent Mode v2 is set to deny every category before anything else runs. If a measurement tag is ever added to this site, it stays denied until you press Accept on the cookie bar, and the moment you decline or clear the setting it goes back to denied. The Cookie Policy lists what those tags would set.

Why we are allowed to hold it

Server logs: our legitimate interest in keeping the site up and secure. Contact form: steps taken at your request before a possible stay, and our legitimate interest in answering correspondence. The two browser values: your consent, and in the case of the age confirmation, our legal obligation to keep under-18s away from material about the gaming floor.

How long, and who sees it

Form emails are kept for 12 months and then deleted, unless they turn into a stay, in which case the booking record is kept for 6 years for tax. Logs: 30 days. The browser values last until you clear them.

Inside the hotel, the front desk and the duty manager read the form inbox. Outside it, only our web host and our email provider, both of them in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, and both under written terms that stop them using any of it for themselves. Nothing is sold, and nothing is passed to anyone else except where the law or a court requires it.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, object to our holding it, or withdraw a consent you gave. Write to [email protected]. We will answer within a month and will not charge you for it. If you are not satisfied with the answer, UK data protection law lets you complain to the supervisory authority for the United Kingdom.

Children

This website is written for adults and is not aimed at anyone under 18. We do not knowingly keep information about children. If you think a child has sent us something through the form, tell us and it will be deleted.

Changes

When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it and the new version replaces the old one on this page. If a change is substantial, a line on the home page will say so for a month.
