Finding us
11 to 15 Ashcombe Terrace
On the slope north of the centre, where the streets stop pretending to be flat. Twelve minutes down to the station, rather more coming back.

Getting here
By train
Bath Spa is the station, about ninety minutes from London Paddington and twelve from Bristol Temple Meads. From the station it is a twelve minute walk through the centre and then uphill. Taxis wait on the forecourt and the fare is small enough that nobody will think less of you.
By car
Leave the M4 at junction 18 and come down the A46, roughly twenty minutes. The hotel has no car park, so residents get a permit for the public car park two streets away, issued at reception along with a map that the night porter drew and everyone agrees is better than the printed one.
By air
Bristol Airport is about fifty minutes by road. Heathrow is two hours and change, and the coach goes to the centre of Bath, not the station, which catches people out.
On foot and by bus
Nearly everything worth seeing in Bath is within twenty-five minutes on foot of the front door, and most of it is downhill from here. The city buses stop at the bottom of the terrace. The open-top tour starts near the Abbey and passes the end of our road twice an hour in summer.
The neighbourhood
Ashcombe Terrace is residential, with no shopfronts or late licences and no deliveries after seven. At night the noise is mostly gulls, who have strong opinions about chimney pots.
Five minutes down the hill the city proper starts. The Roman Baths and the Abbey are twenty minutes away at a walking pace, the Royal Crescent and the Circus about fifteen in the other direction, and the Holburne Museum and the Pulteney Bridge somewhere in between. The Saturday market on Green Park is worth the detour.
For a walk that gets you out of the city without a car, the canal towpath at Bathwick runs east for as far as you have the afternoon, and the skyline path above the terrace gives you the whole bowl of Bath in one look.
Things we are asked every week
- Yes, the hill is as steep as it looks on the map.
- Yes, you can leave luggage at reception before check-in and after check-out.
- No, the thermal baths in the city are not ours and have their own queue. Our pool in the basement is cold and small, which is a different thing altogether.
- The nearest pharmacy is on the corner at the bottom of the terrace and closes at six.
